Set up device-specific network monitoring types

Last Updated: May 21, 2020

After the Relay Proactive device has been installed at a Customer Location and that Relay Proactive device was added to the Customer Location record in Relay, wait 24-48 hours for the Relay Proactive device to scan all devices at the Location and record them into Relay. After this initial waiting period has passed, you’ll need to go back into the Customer Location in Relay and set up individual devices' monitoring types, based on the Customer’s needs. NOTE: make sure you set up Organization- or Location-wide monitoring rules for each device monitoring type first.

  1. Go to Customers → Locations. Find your Location and double click or click on pencil icon` (Pencil) to edit it.
  2. Click on click on  (Technology) on the left navigation bar of the Locations modal to view the list of devices that Relay Proactive has found on the Location’s network.
  3. Find the device you would like to set up and double click or click on pencil icon` (Pencil) to edit it.
  4. Select Screen Shot 2019-02-22 at 12.00.37 PM.png(Advanced) on the left navigation bar of the Technology modal.
  5. Scroll down to the Monitoring section:
    • Device Active: select Yes if you would like Relay Proactive to send checks for your device. Typically, you would only set this field to No for devices that will never be active at your Location again, such as old routers, or devices that do not need to be checked, such as guest phones that have connected to your network.
    • Critical System: select between Unmonitored, Monitored, or Business Critical, depending on the importance of the device for your Location. Learn more about device monitoring types here.

User tip 1: to quickly check whether you have already configured the monitoring type for a specific device, go to your Technology list and check the User Edited column. It will be set to Yes if you have made any changes to the device profile or settings, including monitoring type and nickname.

User tip 2: on a device profile, you can also edit the nickname of the device to easily locate the device the merchant is dealing with (e.g. Back Office Printer or Kitchen Receipt Printer). The basic device profile can be found in the Device tab on the left navigation bar of the Technology modal. The Advanced tab will allow you to collect more device specific information on a specific device and set up what type of monitoring the device should receive.
